The collection of rates for the City of
Victoria has been most satisfactory, and the form of
Revenue File introduced by the Treasurer at my suggestion
The whole of the rates to 30th June,
1893, have been collected, and the arrears for the Quarter
to 30th September, 1893, are comparatively small,
has worked well.

For the village rates not so much can be
said, but, during 1893, a great advance was made complete
lists, showing the arrears due, being prepared, and steps
are being taken to recover such of these arrears as can be
collected.
The suns mentioned in paragraph 6 of my
report on the Accounts for 1892, which had been collected
and not accounted for, were made good by the Collector,
who has since left the service.

The collections of Crown Rant have been
very good, and the total arreurs outstanding on 31st
December, 1893, exclusive of those for the second half of
1893, which only became due on 25th December in that year,
only amounted to $4,500, as explained in my letter No 9/6
of 29th January, 1894.
The new form of Rent Roll
suggested by the commission of enquiry into the Treasury
frauds has been adopted. It is somewhat cumbersome as
it necessitates a reference to two hooks, one for Arrears
and one for Currert Revenue, whereas in the old book the
Arrears were carried forward from year to year, and it was
easy to see at a glance what was due on each lot.

The check on the minor sources of Revenue
has been almost complete, and has proved generally satis-
factory.
A new departure was made in 1893, at my
suggestion, as regards the method of recording the issue
of books of receipts to the various collecting departments,
and, in future years, in addition to the monthly detailed
examination
